Addressing a Script Error Message

Anytime you are using a Windows operating system whether old or new, a script error can occur. These errors will usually come up in the form of a pop up style message and will keep you from executing an action either partially or in full.


Symptoms of a Script Error

When your computer is experiencing script errors you will know as you will not be able to complete certain tasks. In some cases you may not be able to access certain websites.


Causes of a Script Error

Script errors can be caused by a number of things. Most commonly, they are caused by a file or program on your computer being corrupted. It could also be that the script in question is not updated properly. In extreme situations it may be that a virus is plaguing your system. Script errors are more common with computers using Internet Explorer 7.


Fixing a Script Error

Fixing a script error can usually be done in one of two ways:

Solution 1: Service Pack for Vista


  1. See which Windows operating system you are using.
  2. If it is Vista download the latest Service Pack.
  3. Run the Service Pack.
  4. Restart your computer and see if the script error has stopped.


Solution 2: Execute a Hotfix


  1. Identify the script error when you are prompted by pop up message.
  2. Go to Microsoft’s website and lookup the Hotfix for that specific script error.
  3. Execute the Hotfix.

You will not have to restart your computer after the Hotfix has been executed.
